The content of the course includes the following:

  1. Introduction to energy issues – RES energy balance – Main sources of RES – Basic principles of RES theory (solar geometry, potential, etc.)
  2. Passive solar systems
  3. Natural ventilation of buildings
  4. Solar systems (Solar thermal – Photovoltaic)
  5. Biomass – Geothermal – District heating / district cooling of building complexes / settlements.
  6. Urban wind systems – Small hydro projects
  7. Alternative energy sources (hydrogen, wave energy, cogeneration systems, etc.)
  8. Natural lighting – Lighting control / adjustment systems – Energy saving in lighting systems
  9. Application of RES at settlement level – Examples
  10. Energy autonomous buildings and settlements – Examples
  11. Computing tools for evaluating RES potential in settlements and buildings (RETSCREEN, F-chart, etc.)
  12. Issues of RES implementation in buildings and settlements: European and national legislation, obstacles to implementation, economic valuation, etc.).
  13. Presentation of six-month assignments
