Objectives of the course

  1. Understanding the effects of climate change on natural and anthropogenic systems and ecosystems
  2. Developing the capacity to identify risk factors related to exposure to and vulnerability to climate change
  3. The development of the ability to recognize land use changes
  4. Determining the effects on the natural environment (water, air, soil) and dependent ecosystems
  5. Determining impacts on anthropogenic systems, cities and infrastructure
  6. The determination and planning of countermeasures with the minimization of the relative costs.

Contour:

Part A   – Effects of climate change on the natural environment and ecosystems

– Observed and expected effects on the natural environment:

Drought, floods, sea level rise, waves, effects on coastal areas, landslides, soil erosion, desertification, changes in soil moisture, fires.

– Observed and expected effects on the natural environment:

Point and non-point sources of pollution. Modeling land use changes.

Part B – Effects on anthropogenic systems

– Effects on urban areas, infrastructure, transport, tourism, crops

Part C – Coping and adaptation

– Risk management as a means of adaptation.

– Promoting the sustainable functions of ecosystems.

– The role of technology in countermeasures
